4th August 2009 - Message from Matt Hammond
I would just like to say, on behalf of the athletes who have competed this year in the successful Northern League Team, a big thank you to Gav MANN, for managing the team. I know Gav got dropped in at the deep end a little bit with Stu'S sudden illness but he has done a brilliant job. It isn't always easy trying to persuade athletes / coaches that they should turn out for the league but the fact we covered nearly every event in the last 2 matches meant we won them. Also I know he has been a frustrated Athlete this year due to his injury and I am sure on most of the matches he was dying to put his spikes on and run.
Here is my plea to all athletes and coaches alike - Scunthorpe deserves to be in division two. We have some very talented athletes but next year wont be easy as the standard is good in the higher leagues. So when you are writing your training / competition plans next year please pencil in the 4 league matches it isn't a lot to ask.
Division one here we come !!!!!
Matt HAMMOND

I would like to congratulate the team on its back-to-back league titles and promotion to Division 2EC; this is a fantastic achievement by all involved. It’s been hard work and a lot of effort has been put in, the team has proven once again that we do belong in the higher leagues where we will be mixing it with some of our big local rivals. I would like to thanks all athletes for their hard work and some great performances this season. It’s been a pleasure to manage such a talented team,
A big mention should go to officials and helper’s who this season have been amazing. They, as a team, managed to get us 30 points in each match. This is a massive bonus because without them we would have not gained promotion. Thank you.
The 2010 season - Gary and I are already planning for next season. At the moment, I’m not sure if I’ll carry on as team manager but I do want to be involved in some way. I nearly have the green light to resume training and start running again and hope to be fit to be selected to run in division 2EC next season. I’m not sure if I could combined the too as I want to concentrate on running and competing. I will make a decision after the cup final.
Gavin Mann,

It’s confirmed! Scunthorpe makes it, for the second year in a row, to the Cup final at Manchester. Well done to all those involved. We will once again be competing against the big teams in the final.
After yesterdays 2nd place we were entered into ‘a paper match’ with all the other second place teams, Rotherham, Bingley and Blackburn. We managed to come out of this 2nd to Blackburn meaning that Rotherham and Bingley go into the Plate match..
Scunthorpe and Blackburn join match winners Wakefield, KUHULL, Bury AC and City of Manchester in the Cup final. I believe that we, once again, will be able to hold our own. This is a fantastic achievement and, as Team Manager, I am very proud of your achievements.
25th July 2009 - Report and PLEA by Team Manager, Gavin Mann
Scunthorpe makes the Northern Cup Final at Manchester on 12th September after coming second today at Hull.
It’s still unsure whether we’re in the Cup or Plate as we are still waiting results from the other match at Wigan but after been drawn in the tougher match against Lincoln, City of Sheffield and Wakefield (all from divisions 2) plus City of York (who compete in Division One) plus current league leaders in our own division 3, Doncaster.
We were up against it from the start but credit to this very talented Scunthorpe team that battled all day and was leading at the half way stage and only lost out to winner Wakefield to a few points.
I would like to thank all athletes, official and supporters, who turned up today. This is a great achievement to make the finals for the second year in a row. Now let’s top it off with promotion next weekend.
I have a lot of athletes who are on holiday or unavailable due to work commitments, so will any athlete who can compete in this league please let me know if your available. We must fill all our team sheet out next Sunday to give ourselves the best chance of promotion.
Please respond to my rally call and help our Club to get in the division where it belongs.
Thank You, Gavin Mann, Team Manager.

I am a very happy team manager after all the efforts of our team yesterday. Every single person performed exceptionally well. Thank you to all the athletes, officials and helpers who all played their part to make our efforts worthwhile.
Early in the match we were leading the way but when some of our athletes sustained injuries we had to respond quickly and adjust our event entries. We were battling, all through the match, against strong teams from Doncaster and Barnsley. I would like to thank all those who stepped up at short notice and filled the gaps.
The men’s team sheet had only one space to fill which was a B pole vault. This was an amazingly strong team and they won 14 of their events in both ‘A’ and ‘B’.
The ladies team had 7 events left to fill at the start of the day but due to injures we ended up with 10 events not filled. We even had to put field athletes into the relay squads and they deserve our praise.
We finished 3rd behind Barnsley by only 6 points and 19 points behind winners Doncaster.
So here is my ‘rally cry’ to all athletes who can compete in this league. Please support us and commit to the next two meetings (Scunthorpe on the 5th July and 2nd August). We now need to chase and catch Doncaster whilst keeping ahead of Barnsley. Let us all get together to fill our team sheets.
Please, men and women of Scunthorpe and District AC, come and help us to gain team promotion.
Thanks
Gavin Mann

The Senior League management team have decided that this year to be eligible to compete in this years cup competition at Hull on 25 July, you must have competed in at least 2 of the first 3 league meetings which are at Doncaster on 2nd May, Sheffield 6th June and Scunthorpe 5th July, The team will be picked from this criteria which will also be based on current times and distances.
Athlete’s will be informed of their selection 2 weeks before the event.
If an event cannot be filled with this criteria i.e. no one in that event has competed in at least 2 meetings, or an athlete, who has been selected, is unavailable, then an athlete who has competed in at least 2 meetings will be asked if they would like to do that event.
