‘Scunthorpe and District’ combined ladies and mens athletics team have this year crushed all opposition in the North of England Division 4 League. With 4 wins in 4 meetings this year’s team have shown just what they are capable of.
The success of the team this year is a credit to all who took part. Because of the zeal and enthusiasm of the athletes this year, recruiting a team was made easy. The way the athletes communicated with each other between university, work, college and school was a great inspiration. This in itself ensured success on the track as the Scunthorpe team easily outnumbered opposing teams, thus ensuring good point scoring.
Next season the Scunthorpe team will be competing in a higher league where the opposition will be of a higher calibre. The opponents will be Doncaster, Hallamshire, Barnsley, Cleethorpes and Grantham.
There have been some great individual performances this year, which are a credit to the club and its coaches. However the winning ingredient for its success was the teams “team spirit”
