Match Fees

Joint statement by the Track and Field Chairman and the Track and Field Treasurer concerning the decision made to introduce match fees for League Meetings

16th April 2010

At the Track and Field AGM on Wednesday 17th February 2010 the Committee considered the Club Accounts which had previously been passed at the Executive AGM, and was advised by the Club Treasurer of the following points:

  • The Club would no longer receive an income from the canteen at Quibell Park at meetings as the Council had taken over the catering facility.
  • The Club would loose several hundred pounds of income due to the Banks offering Charities and Clubs  miserly rates of interest since the banking crisis.
  • The Club had missed out this financial year on the opportunity to make £500 profit on hosting a cross country meeting from Quibell Park.

The Committee agreed that due to the current  economic climate it would prefer to keep membership  at last years prices. Members under 10 years paying £15,  Members 10 Years and above paying £25 of which £5 is passed straight on to England Athletics. Under the new pricing policy there are now more Under 11 athletes falling into the higher price bracket. Current Members who have moved away from Scunthorpe to University still have the benefit of a reduced Membership of £10, plus £5 Licence fee.

During the last Club financial year the Track and Field Section received £3,567.50 income from Membership. The following costs were paid out for Affiliation and travel to YAL, NJL and Northern Senior League/Cup matches.

Young Athlete’s League £250
Junior League £409
Senior League and Cup £1112.50

The Track and Field Section also paid £741.50 out for team entries/travel to Road Relays and Cross Country Meetings.

The Club clearly does not operate from Membership income alone. It relies on its other sources of income such as Sponsorship, Donations, Profit from hosting its Winter Warm Up, Cross Country Meeting, Festival of Athletics.

The Club also relies heavily on the surplus it makes on training nights - £1809.99 in the last financial year.

The Club would like to continue with it’s policy of paying to transport club athletes to league matches and therefore, to help with the cost of the leagues the committee agreed that the fairest way for all leagues and all club members would be to ask athletes to pay a Match Fee of £2 for each league match that they compete in. Any athlete who wishes to donate their travel claim to the Club will of course have their match fee taken from this donation.

Athletes are reminded that wherever possible Athletes should car share to matches to save money. Athletes that are unable to travel from Scunthorpe to matches will still be entitled to help with their travel costs, the rate which will be agreed on an individual basis with the Team Manager/ Club Treasurer.

All decisions regarding Match Fees, Travel Claims etc will be subject to review at the next Track and Field AGM
