Anthony Hammers record again
Four young members of Scunthorpe and district athletics club made the trip to Hull for the Kingston Upon Hull Young athletes meeting. As part of the meeting Hull hammer squad were holding an open hammer competition , Anthony GILLATT took full advantage of been able to compete on a circle he has trained on with former commonwealth Hammer champion Dave SMITH by throwing a new personal best and club record of 36.40m which has moved himself up to 42nd on the national rankings. This was the second time in a week Anthony has broken his own record. Anthony has reverted back to throwing off two turns to try and improve his speed and it has worked well however he knows when he can keep the same momentum for 3 turns then 40m is the next barrier he can break. Not content with a new record Anthony then won the javelin and finished second in the Long Jump. Also competing in the hammer Jacob Hammond set a new personal best before finishing 5th in both the 100m and 200m.
Mitchell Bailes was competing in the under 13 boys and started his day with a gold medal in the Shot Putt before setting a new personal best in the 800m and knocking over 2 seconds off his best in the 200m.
The only female competitor was Emily Strickland but she was to keep the medals coming with two silver medals in the 80m and 150m although she will be slightly disappointed to have been beaten for the first time in the sprint events this season
